Kozhikode: Malappuram district police on Friday seized 12.8kg of MDMA, valued at more than Rs 10 crore in the retail market, from an Innova car near Coimbatore. Three persons — Jabir Ali , 32, of Pandallur in Malappuram; Muhammed Salih, 34, of Meppadi in Wayanad; and Shaim Akbar, 21, of Anakkayam in Malappuram — have been arrested.
Police said the consignment was packed in quantities ranging from 100g to 500g, apparently for delivery at various locations in Kerala. It is one of the biggest seizures of the synthetic drug by Kerala Police. A special investigation team led by Malappuram district police chief Chaitra Theresa John, Manjeri inspector T G Dileep and the district DANSAF squad made the seizure. The drug was concealed inside the car’s door panel.
Coimbatore, Palani and Kodaikanal were identified as key transit points used by the network. Further investigation is under way to trace the source of the seized consignment and identify other members of the racket. The special investigation team included Perinthalmanna DSP Gopakumar, Narcotic Cell DSP N O Sibi, Malappuram DSP Subhash Babu, Manjeri station ASI Muhammedali, and officers Thaufiq Mubarak and Pradeep Kumar.
