Lucknow: A suspected love affair is being investigated after two suicide cases were reported within 24 hours in Sitapur. a 37-year-old woman was found hanging on Saturday While a 20-year-old man died by hanging himself on Friday.
Before 24 hours had passed, another suicide was reported in the same village on Saturday morning.
Manjesh and Rinki were reportedly in a relationship, according to police. Station house officer Prabhat Kumar Gupta said separate reports regarding the two incidents were received from the respective families. When he did not come out for some time, his family members knocked on the door but received no response. The door was locked from inside and was subsequently opened with the help of villagers. Manjesh was found hanging inside the room. Rinki was found hanging at the house of her husband, Indra Pal. Her husband informed the police, following which officers reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem examination. The two deaths within a short interval triggered speculation among villagers. Police examined both scenes and collected evidence with the assistance of forensic experts. During the preliminary investigation, police found a possible link between the two cases. Both bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, while police and forensic teams have inspected the two scenes and collected evidence. Police are also questioning family members and other villagers to establish the nature of the relationship between the two and determine what happened before their deaths.
Manjesh went to his room late on Friday evening, according to police. Police also learnt that Rinki had been living with Manjesh for around eight months before returning to her husband, Indra Pal, on Friday.
His father, Godhan, informed the police. A police team reached the spot and conducted an initial investigation. A forensic team was also called to examine the scene and collect evidence.
