The 45-year-old Swiss great, who won 20 Grand Slam singles titles, was inducted alongside former player and broadcaster Mary Carillo.
“Now the Mirka part,” he said, pausing before breaking into tears. As he tried to regain his composure, Federer told the audience, “I need tissues and sunglasses, everything to protect me right now. “I’m thrilled to have made the journey here,” he said. King said: “She has earned her spot in sports journalism and she has earned her spot in Newport.”
“Oh gosh, this such a mess. Federer finished his speech by thanking the ball boys and encouraging future players to continue pushing tennis forward. “It’s amazing to see yourself in a place like this. To immerse yourself in the history of the sport means a lot to me.
