Lucknow: The Sports Authority of India (SAI), Lucknow, is expected to receive a major infrastructure boost under the Khelo India Scheme-2026-31, with projects including an additional hockey turf, a modern weightlifting hall, a swimming pool(COE) and a 200-bed hostel.
Talking to TOI, regional sports director Atma Prakash said, “Of the nine components of the revamped Khelo India Scheme, three are dedicated to infrastructure development and upgradation. SAI Lucknow has also proposed the development of Sports Training Centres (STCs) in Bareilly, Raebareli and Varanasi. So, it is very much expected that NCOE Lucknow may get more projects. In addition, Khelo India leagues and regional leagues will give athletes more exposure.”

A National Coach Accreditation Board shall be established for the development of coaches and to take care of their career progression,” he said. “Khelo India Utkrisht Vidyalayas and Khelo India Feeder Schools shall be established and assisted in talent and coach development. SAI Lucknow has also proposed the development of Sports Training Centres (STCs) in Bareilly, Raebareli and Varanasi.
