To standardize the interview process, universities will set: The wider industry impact

Mumbai: Interviews for the recruitment of 5,012 assistant professors in Maharashtra ’s aided senior colleges will now have to be recorded on CCTV, with the footage preserved for at least a year, as the state govt tightens oversight of the hiring process.

Because vacancies worsen the faculty-student ratio, “Prolonged recruitment delays cause hardship to thousands of NET/SET-qualified candidates, but students are the ultimate sufferers.

All approved vacancies should be filled within three months,” said Prof Kushal Mude, national convener, All India NET and SET Teachers Organization. Fresh guidelines issued by govt place greater responsibility on universities, colleges and selection committees to ensure transparency in appointments to non-govt aided senior colleges affiliated with public universities. This also affects institutional performance in NIRF and QS rankings.

University Approval Required for Final Selection List

The university must confirm that interviews were conducted in compliance with established norms before approving the final selection list. Additionally, candidates must meet the specified eligibility criteria. The final selection list will only be made public on the college website after receiving this approval.

New Guidelines for College Recruitment Transparency

Colleges are now required to publish their applicant shortlisting criteria and the names of shortlisted candidates on their websites. Additionally, they must submit details of candidates invited for interviews and the marks awarded during the shortlisting process to the relevant university online.

Universities will play a more significant supervisory role in this process. They are tasked with verifying that the qualifications listed in recruitment advertisements comply with the University Grants Commission (UGC) standards. Furthermore, the universities’ backward class cells are responsible for ensuring that reservation policies are applied correctly.

To standardize the interview process, universities will set the criteria for marking during interviews, which colleges must adhere to.
