Efforts to establish the IT Park began in 2008-09, when nearly 750 acres of defence-owned land at Turkmatti along the Pune-Bengaluru NH was identified.
The proposal was discussed at a closed-door meeting of the Belagavi Urban Development Authority (Buda) Saturday, where, according to sources, newly appointed Buda chairperson and City North MLA Asif Sait placed it before the minister and also directed officials to identify suitable land in the area. Belagavi : The long-pending proposal to establish an IT Park in Belagavi has received a fresh push, with district in-charge minister Satish Jarkiholi reportedly approving a proposal to identify land in Kanabargi for the project. However, issues related to land transfer, acquisition procedures and environmental clearances stalled the proposal. Environmental groups also opposed the project, citing the area’s ecological significance and its importance as a wildlife habitat.
