Kolkata: Authorities have arrested three class 9 students from a well-known English-medium co-educational school in Salt Lake. The students are accused of using artificial intelligence tools to create and distribute morphed, sexually explicit images and videos involving their classmates, parents, and female teachers. This incident raises serious concerns about the misuse of technology in educational environments and the implications for student safety and privacy.
Teenagers Arrested for Creating Fake Illicit Videos
Three teenagers were arrested on Sunday after being on the run from police for several weeks, following a tip-off. According to a senior officer from the Bidhannagar City Police, the suspects utilized a free AI video-generation tool to create realistic-looking fake videos featuring their friends and teachers, sourced from social media.
The trio has been presented to the Juvenile Justice Board, which has since placed them in a juvenile home. Investigators are currently looking into the distribution of the manipulated content and assessing whether others were involved in its production or sharing.
An investigation was launched following a complaint, leading to the arrest of one youth earlier this month.
Police said the case came to light last month after objectionable videos featuring several girls and teachers were allegedly circulated on WhatsApp groups among students.
