Ahmedabad: The undergraduate (UG) admission process conducted through Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) has been completed, leaving around 1 lakh seats vacant across universities in the state. At Gujarat University alone, approximately 54,000 students have been allotted admission, while more than 10,000 UG seats remain vacant.
Gujarat University Faces High Vacancy Rates Amid UG Admissions
This year, Gujarat University has reported over 10,000 vacant seats following the completion of undergraduate (UG) admissions via the GCAS platform. The state initially planned to shift the admission process to individual universities after three rounds, responding to protests from student organizations. However, the process continued through GCAS for a total of eight rounds, with four rounds conducted before handing over the process to the universities.
The arts stream has seen the highest number of admissions, while science colleges have recorded the lowest. Additionally, around 10,000 seats remain unfilled in commerce colleges. The situation may worsen due to ongoing disputes involving St Xavier’s College. If resolved and a new admission round is initiated, students who have already enrolled elsewhere may choose to cancel their current admissions in favor of St Xavier’s.
