Surgeon Vice Admiral Manish Honwad has been appointed as the Director and Head (Commandant) of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC). This leadership change marks a significant development in the institution, which plays a crucial role in training medical professionals for the armed forces.
An AFMC alumnus, Honwad completed his MBBS in 1989 and MD in anaesthesiology and critical care medicine in 1998. He holds an MPhil in public administration from the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi With over 37 years of experience in service, Honwad has held several prestigious academic, clinical and administrative positions. He was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2025 for his distinguished service and contribution to patient care.

A certified healthcare simulation educator from the society for simulation in healthcare, USA, Honwad has been an international speaker on healthcare simulation at various conferences.
