A thirteen-year-old student died days after an alleged assault at her school.
LUCKNOW: A 13-year-old Class VIII student died during treatment days after she was allegedly assaulted by a teacher and a classmate at her school in Hardoi district, police said on Tuesday. Kshama was admitted to a hospital and remained under treatment for several days before she died on August 30, her father said. Following a written complaint submitted by her father on August 31, police registered an FIR against the teacher and the teenage student under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The teacher has been arrested, while the school headmaster and the accused teacher have been suspended, officials said. Police said she died at a private hospital in Farrukhabad. Hardoi Additional Superintendent of Police Subodh Gautam said the FIR was registered against the school headmaster, the class teacher and the student, while the investigation was underway. Hardoi Superintendent of Police Ashok Meena said investigators were examining medical records and recording statements of witnesses to establish the sequence of events and determine the role of each accused.
The complaint alleged that when Kshama approached her teacher to report the incident, he beat her and allegedly twisted both her arms, causing fractures and severe nerve injuries. The incident came to light after Kshama’s younger sister informed family members. Her relatives rushed to the school and confronted the teacher. The family alleged that they also approached the principal but no action was taken and they were instead advised to seek medical treatment for the girl.
