Dharwad : A simple mobile application has helped the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) plug revenue leakages, eliminate delays in rent collection and streamline the management of more than 2,000 commercial shops spread across six districts.
The corporation has 2,600 commercial shops, of which 2,175 are rented out while 425 remain vacant. These establishments now generate nearly Rs 48 crore annually as non-transport revenue. Earlier, the corporation collected around Rs 3 crore in monthly rent from commercial establishments. After introducing the app, monthly rent collection has increased to nearly Rs 4 crore, translating into Rs 48 crore in annual non-transport revenue.
As a result, shops are allotted on time and revenue loss due to prolonged vacancies has been minimised. During this period, shops remained vacant and the corporation lost rental income.
The application has made licence management transparent and efficient, according to NWKRTC chief traffic manager Vivekanand Vishwajna. The app enables shopkeepers to pay rent online without visiting corporation offices. The impact has been significant.
It also sends automated reminders before the due date, reducing delays in payments. Officials now receive advance alerts about licence expiry dates, allowing tenders to be floated well before the expiry period.
