A 32-year-old police constable attached to Thattarmadam station in Thoothukudi district was arrested on Tuesday for murdering a woman in Mudivaithanenthal village following a dispute linked to an alleged extramarital relationship.
Thoothukudi: A 32-year-old police constable attached to Thattarmadam station in Thoothukudi district was arrested on Tuesday for murdering a woman in Mudivaithanenthal village following a dispute linked to an alleged extramarital relationship. The deceased, Priya , 39, her younger sister, opposed it and warned her sister against continuing it.
Police said the accused, Muthukumaran, had extramarital relations with Subbulakshmi, a widow from the village. Priya died on the spot, police said. He attacked her with an iron rod, inflicting multiple injuries to her face, and fled.
On Tuesday evening, he went to the photo copy centre run by Priya and, under the influence of alcohol, picked a quarrel with her.
A case was registered at Pudukottai police station under Section 103(1) of BNS, and the accused was arrested.
Police said Muthukumaran had also figured in an earlier assault case. Police shifted the body to the medical college hospital for postmortem. Departmental action is being initiated against him while further investigation is under way.
