Kottayam: Anila Baby, 32, a native of Moonnilavu near here, has been charged with murder in connection with the hit-and-run death of Thrissur-native Anjana Hari, 35, according to a complaint filed by Milpitas police before Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, on Tuesday.
Anila unlawfully and with “malice aforethought” killed a human being, according to the complaint filed in Anjana’s death. Anila appeared incoherent and unable to properly answer investigators’ questions, and detectives reportedly observed visible injuries and blood on her arms and legs, according to the police account cited by local media. The document further alleges that the crime involved great violence, great bodily harm and other acts indicating a high degree of cruelty, viciousness and callousness. It also alleges that Anila was armed with or used a weapon during the commission of the crime, and that the manner in which the offence was carried out indicated planning, sophistication and professionalism. Police reportedly received information that the SUV was being driven recklessly after leaving the complex and that it passed responding police vehicles before entering a Walgreens parking lot on North Milpitas Boulevard, where Anila was subsequently located.
A separate probe is under way into the death of Ann Mary Mathew, 40, a Thiruvananthapuram native, who was found stabbed to death in her flat. Both deaths reportedly occurred on or about Aug 28 in Milpitas, Santa Clara County. Anila hasn’t been charged in connection with that case.
