Minor behind elder brother’s murder, 3 Held — ₹88,000 contract killing

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Lucknow police announced on Wednesday that they have made significant progress in the investigation of a watchman’s murder. The victim was fatally stabbed while sleeping on the terrace of an under-construction house in Mahigwan. Authorities revealed that the alleged mastermind behind the crime is the victim’s 17-year-old brother, who reportedly orchestrated the killing due to a dispute over family land.

The victim, Satish Yadav (30), worked as a watchman and was asleep at the construction site in Ganeshpur during the early hours of Aug 31 when four men allegedly attacked him with a knife and iron rods. Police said Satish suffered around 15 stab wounds and died on the spot. During the investigation, police analysed call detail records and other technical evidence, which led to the arrest of Anand Kumar (22), Deepak Rawat (21) and Rachit Rawat (20).

Police said the four assailants reached the construction site on motorcycles and repeatedly attacked Satish while he was asleep before fleeing. Police also recovered two motorcycles, a knife and three iron rods allegedly used in the crime.

The victim’s younger brother, frustrated by the ongoing conflict, allegedly decided to eliminate him and struck a deal worth Rs 88,000 with his acquaintances to execute the murder.

Satish had allegedly been pressuring his father to sell family land, triggering frequent disputes within the family, according to DCP (North) Amit K Anand.
