Members of the gang also robbed a cab driver four days after they robbed the cybersecurity analyst

Pune: The Baner police have arrested four youths and detained a minor on the charge of robbing a cybersecurity analyst of cash and gold jewellery, collectively worth Rs 1.22 lakh, on Pan Card Club Road in Baner on Oct 1. Four days later, members of the gang robbed a cab driver of cash and a cellphone, together worth Rs 12,000, under Pashan-Sus bridge. A case has been registered with the Bavdhan police.

Police said the 32-year-old analyst had arrived in the city from Kolhapur in the early hours of Oct 1, when four men intercepted him on two-wheelers. They snatched his gold chain and a gold-plated bracelet worth Rs 1.03 lakh, forced him to transfer Rs 19,000 via UPI to two bank accounts, and fled the spot. They combed through 225 CCTV recordings and traced the suspects’ movements to an eatery in Khed-Shivapur. Under questioning, he revealed the names of his accomplices — Dhayari residents Aditya Kolkar (18) and Vishal Zodge (18), and Sahil Margale (19) of Kolhewadi.

After he approached the police, assistant inspector Ganesh Raikar launched an investigation. “We examined CCTV footage and noticed the suspects fled through Katraj-Dehu Road bypass, which doesn’t have very good CCTV coverage,” Raikar said. “We have taken all of them into custody,” Raikar said. Raikar said the two bank accounts were held in other states and that the suspects transferred the money to a gaming app.

A minor was seen accompanying the four men. The police subsequently took Parage, a Dhayari resident, into custody in Bavdhan. Margale has a criminal record. They have recovered some cash and a two-wheeler from the suspects. Download the TOI App.
