Seven interstate robbers held in Sitapur

The Nashik rural police have arrested a gang of seven men operating on the Samruddhi Expressway

Lucknow : Sitapur police on Tuesday arrested seven interstate criminals for allegedly robbing a jeweller in the Rampur Kalan area on Aug 23 and recovered looted ornaments, firearms and two motorcycles allegedly used in the crime.

As part of their plan, the accused reached the area on two motorcycles on Aug 23 and intercepted Nigam. During the operation, police recovered eight pairs of silver anklets, 163 toe rings, 17 rings, amulets, lockets, bangles, earrings, anklet locks and other looted items. The accused had gathered information about jeweller Ramesh Nigam’s daily routine and were aware that he regularly travelled to his home in Babupurwa via the Jannagar route after closing his shop, according to police. The arrests were made by a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Rampur Kalan police near the Bagarabhari intersection. They reportedly assaulted him with a wooden stick, hitting him on the head, before fleeing with jewellery and other valuables.
