Agra teen killed after failed rape bid; accused held in encounter

Agra: A 17-year-old Class 12 girl was allegedly murdered by her father at their home in Uttar Pradesh ’s Agra district on Thursday evening in a suspected case of honour killing over her friendship with a youth. The incident happened in Panchgai Kheda village under Ekta police station.

Accused Chandraveer allegedly first strangled his daughter and then attacked her with a cleaver before walking into Ekta police station around 5:30 pm and informing officers that he had killed her and that her body was lying at their home. The teenager had left home around 7 pm on Tuesday after telling her family she was going out to buy something. She came back around 1 am.

Chandraveer told police that his daughter had struck up a friendship with a village youth from another caste, to which he objected, leading to repeated arguments over the past two days. “He struck her head with a cleaver and then strangled her to death,” said SHO Sauarabh Singh. Police said the accused claimed his daughter had brought “dishonour” to the family.

When she did not return, her father approached the police, and a missing person case was registered. On Thursday afternoon, when Chandraveer’s wife, Rajni, had gone to the market and his son had left for Gurgaon, Chandraveer allegedly attacked the teenager when she was resting on a bed.
