The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Nagpur: The daring Wanadongri jewellery heist last month had links to faraway Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where two residents, Mustakim Munir Ahmed, 34, and N Mohammed Sufyan N Sulaiman, were arrested from Port Blair after a 24-hour operation by the crime branch.

On October 3, four gunmen had entered the jewellery shop in MIDC police limits, downed the shutters, held the employee at gunpoint and fled with gold ornaments worth Rs 40 lakh. On the day of the incident, Rajan summoned Mustakim to Hingna, promising to pay him Rs 12 lakh towards expenses incurred for bail in Chennai. A meticulous probe later unearthed that lawyer Mustakim had met the gang when they were lodged in Chennai Central Jail and helped secure their bail. Out on bail, kingpin Sharma and other members planned the Wanadongri heist and hit upon the idea to rope in Mustakim to help arrange bail if they were caught again. Mustakim reached Hingna and when the group fled after the robbery, they possibly took Mustakim with them.
