Palakkad : Hemambika Nagar Police on Thursday arrested six Odisha natives and seized 53kg of ganja from them near Olavakkode railway station.
The accused were identified as Jikhoria Digal, 22, Anilkumar Digal, 28, and Christal Digal, 45, natives of Kandhamal, and Purandar Khura, 34, Yudhishthi Bibhar, 28, and Labanya Khura, 25, natives of Rayagada.
The police said the accused had allegedly brought the ganja from Odisha by train. They were intercepted while walking out of the railway station. The police team, which found their movements suspicious, stopped and searched them.
The police said Purandar Khura had been booked in a narcotics case by Ernakulam police in 2023. The ganja was recovered from bags carried by the accused. The cops are questioning them to determine the source of the contraband, its intended destination and their possible links with drug trafficking networks.
