Duniya Vijay and his son Samrat
Bengaluru: Karnataka high court Thursday granted divorce to Kannada actor Duniya Vijay , ordering dissolution of his 27-year marriage with his wife Nagarathna . Allowing the miscellaneous first appeal filed by the actor, a division bench comprising Justice DK Singh and Justice H Shanthi Bhushan directed him to pay Rs 2 crore as permanent alimony/one-time settlement to his wife within three months. A delay in payment would attract 6% interest. On June 13, 2024, a Bengaluru family court rejected Vijay’s 2018 petition seeking dissolution of marriage on the grounds of cruelty, holding that he had failed to prove the allegations.
Among other claims, Vijay said Nagarathna had not properly taken care of his parents. The order copy is yet to be uploaded. The court passed the order after considering Nagarathna’s circumstances, the couple’s three children, and Vijay’s financial position and standing in the film industry. Vijay subsequently appealed against the order. Nagarathna had initially opposed ending the marriage.
