Bengaluru : The proposed restrictions on two-wheelers and other vehicles on select high-speed flyovers in Bengaluru are primarily aimed at reducing accidents and improving road safety , joint commissioner (traffic) Karthik Reddy said, citing a series of fatal crashes on Electronics City and Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) flyovers.
As of June 2026, the city had more than 88 lakh registered two-wheelers and 25.3 lakh cars, according to transport department data.
Reddy said similar restrictions were already in place on select flyovers in Mumbai and Hyderabad, where two-wheelers, three-wheelers and trucks are barred from using certain stretches. The Electronics City and KIA flyovers are designed for fast movement and two-wheelers face higher risks than other commuters,” he said. “While two-wheelers are banned to safeguard the motorists themselves, trucks are prohibited to avoid traffic congestion and bottlenecks that repeatedly occur whenever they meet with an accident or break down. The proposed restrictions come amid concerns over the impact on Bengaluru’s large two-wheeler population.
