Gorakhpur : Body of a woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a field along a roadside in Gorakhpur’s Jhagha police station area on Thursday morning, police said.
Investigators are also examining the possibility that she was sexually assaulted before being killed, though officials said the exact cause of death and any evidence of sexual assault would be confirmed only after the post mortem report is received.
Police said a mark was found around the woman’s neck, raising suspicion that she may have been strangled. SP North Gyanendra Kumar said police are investigating all possible angles. Police and forensic experts reached the spot, collected evidence and sent the body for post-mortem examination. The woman has not yet been identified, and police have sought assistance from neighbouring districts to establish her identity.
