Bagalkot : Two engineers and a headmaster have been suspended following the collapse of a concrete ceiling layer on students at a govt school in Mugalolli Tanda on Wednesday.
As an immediate measure, students in classes 4 to 6 will be shifted to a nearby Karnataka Public School, located 1.5 km away, with transportation costs borne by the education department. Students of classes 1 to 3 will continue attending classes in safe rooms at Mugalolli LT School. To address infrastructure concerns, four new classrooms will be constructed, two by the education department and two under the VB-G RAM G scheme. HESCOM has also been directed to identify and remove high-tension power lines passing over school premises across the district. Meanwhile, deputy director of public instruction suspended CB Helavar, head teacher of Govt Higher Primary School, Mugalolli LT, for allegedly failing to report the deteriorating condition of the school building.
An emergency meeting involving officials from PWD, PRED, RWS and all BEOs was held on Thursday to review school safety, including classroom conditions and drinking water facilities.
