The teenager attacked Vicki Williams inside an empty classroom at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire on February 5. The judge also pointed to the April 2024 attack at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, where two teachers and a pupil were stabbed, stressing the need to protect school staff from violence. She is due to begin treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and said she was unsure whether she would be able to return to teaching. Because he intended to seriously hurt Williams, although he said the boy had never explained why he attacked her, the judge said the teenager had taken the knife to school.
Williams told the court during the trial that the attack happened without warning. She later told the court that she feared she was going to die and was left struggling with the psychological impact of the attack. The court heard that he told the jury he had taken the knife to school as part of a game with friends involving bringing random household objects to school to see what they could get away with.
He had approached her after the school day and asked whether his work was correct. After entering the classroom, the boy closed the door and began looking through his bag before pulling out a large kitchen knife and lunging at her. He was convicted of wounding with intent and had already pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article on school premises. He described the stabbing as an accident.
