First TVK allies meeting on June 1
The first meeting of the leaders of ‘friendly parties’ with chief minister C Joseph Vijay was held on July 1. The subject is likely to be taken up at the Sept 9 meeting. Though there were expectations that a formal alliance would be announced during the first meeting itself, it did not happen.
TVK ministers N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, R Nirmalkumar and A Rajmohan called on state CPM secretary P Shanmugam, CPI secretary M Veerapandian and MDMK general secretary Vaiko to extend them an invitation to the meeting. They are set to meet VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan and Congress leaders too and invite them for the meeting.
Neither CPI nor CPM leaders participated in the July 1 meeting, stating that they were extending outside support to the TVK govt and were not part of the alliance.
Left party leaders said they would discuss and take a decision on attending the meeting. Vaiko, however, said he would participate in the meeting.
