Two Directs land next week, one dedicated to Zelda's 40th: The wider industry impact

Nintendo Direct September 2026: Two Directs land next week, one dedicated to Zelda’s 40th anniversary. Both start at 7:30pm IST.

The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct airs on Tuesday, September 8 at 7:30pm IST and runs roughly 30 minutes. A general Nintendo Direct follows exactly 24 hours later, on Wednesday, September 9 at the same time, with a longer 45-minute runtime. Nintendo will follow it with a Nintendo Treehouse: Live session, around 110 minutes of extended gameplay from titles featured in the Direct. Switch 2 has held a roughly monthly release rhythm through 2026, and with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort locked for October 22, November looks like the open slot. That would drop Zelda into the same month as GTA 6.

Nintendo has confirmed two Direct broadcasts for next week, and one of them belongs entirely to The Legend of Zelda. The Wednesday show also has a tail. Nintendo has committed to launching its Ocarina of Time remake this year, and the calendar is thinning fast. The anniversary show is the obvious place to finally put the N64 classic in motion with a release date attached.

Both stream on Nintendo’s YouTube channel, its website, and the Nintendo Today! app.

The Tuesday showcase is also the logical stage for the live-action Zelda film, which wrapped shooting in April and reaches theatres on May 7, 2027. Rumoured 40th anniversary Switch 2 hardware could surface here as well. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave arrives September 17, and Switch Sports Resort in October. Past that, Nintendo has said very little about 2027, which leaves plenty of room for a surprise.

Nintendo has officially confirmed only Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda, with the rest of the cast still unannounced. A first teaser would not be a stretch. The general Direct offers easier bets. Get the latest technology news and updates. Download the TOI App.
