Hyderabad : Cybercrime police registered a case after a mobile phone was found hidden in a women’s washroom at a public sector company’s office in Secunderabad.
A 35-year-old chief manager went to the sixth-floor washroom at about 10.30 am on Oct 13, according to police. The complaint was first registered at Gandhi Nagar police station on Oct 13 under Sections 77 (voyeurism) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence or giving false information to screen an offender) of the BNS and Section 66E of the Information Technology Act. On the instructions of senior officers, it was transferred to Hyderabad cybercrime police on Oct 22 and re-registered.
“She initially thought it was a room freshener, but on picking it up, she found it was a mobile phone stuck to the wall with double-sided tape,” a cybercrime police officer said. The complainant told police that the attendant snatched the phone and ran off. No videos were found on the device, but forensic analysis may provide more details,” a Gandhi Nagar police officer said.
Under the washbasin, directly opposite the commode, she noticed a small object wrapped in white paper with two holes in it. She then took the phone out of the washroom and casually asked the floor’s office attendant who it belonged to. She immediately alerted colleagues, the HR department and main-gate security personnel, following which the suspect was caught. Suspecting the accused may have kept the phone in the washroom for a long time to secretly record videos, the complainant asked the police to take strict legal action against the attendant and anyone else involved. Police were also requested to retrieve the content from the device and protect the privacy of the women affected. “The accused was arrested and is currently in judicial remand. We have moved a petition seeking his custody to find out more details. Once the court grants custody, cybercrime police will interrogate him.
