Kochi: City police investigating the Thrikkakara morphing case have identified that the arrested student was part of an exclusive group on Telegram which had at least four members.
So far there is no evidence that they have done it for financial gain,” said Kumar. The commissioner said that they will approach Telegram authorities to get details of the remaining members of the group. The officer said that the arrested individual had experience in editing photos and owns the most advanced iPhone with him. He seems to have got it after creating much fuss at home, he said.
“The details of those who were members of the group is under investigation. Sreehari S, a second-year BBA Logistics student and a native of Kilimanoor in Thiruvananthapuram, was arrested for allegedly morphing photographs and videos of teachers and female students of his college into obscene visuals using AI. Further action against those in the groups would be taken after assessing their involvement. He added that those being questioned include people who assisted police and questioning doesn’t mean that they are involved.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, city police commissioner Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar said that photos of teachers and relatives were morphed and shared in groups.
He said that there were social media groups in chat apps centred around the college in which they have shared images and talked. Apart from the same, an exclusive group was formed in which four or five individuals were members and these activities were taking place in this group. He added that whether more people are involved, is under investigation. An eight-member special investigation team (SIT) was formed to investigate the case based on Kochi city police commissioner’s directives.
