Mumbai : Police registered an FIR against a 51-year-old man for using a fake number plate on his car to avoid traffic challans. Police said the car and the numberplate, collectively worth Rs 12 lakh. Police said the accused works as an agent and lives in Kurla. The Vinoba Bhave Nagar Police had received information that an SUV was sporting a fake numberplate in the eastern suburbs. On verifying the registration number, police found it was registered in the name of someone else and not the vehicle owner (the accused). Police then tracked down the accused and quizzed him. They demanded to see his vehicle documents where it was established that the registration number of the vehicle was different from what it was sporting on the numberplate. Download the TOI App.

On Friday, police, while looking for the vehicle, found it at Kurla West.
