Nititsh Korde (33), a cooperative credit society employee, lodged a complaint with the Ale Phata police. Shirur policeon Sunday arrested 20-year-old Akash Mergal, a resident of Jambut, on charge of robbing a 90-year-old woman of gold jewellery worth Rs5 lakh.
An officer from Ale Phata police said Korde resides with his parents, wife and son. When Korde tried to resist, the duo attacked him with a stick,” the officer said. Police said the suspect approached the woman to ask about her family before threatening her with a sickle.
Korde’s parents, wife, sister, and two daughters sustained injuries in the incident. “In the early hours of Sunday, two men barged into Korde’s house by smashing the main door with a big stone, while two of their accomplices stood outside. He used it to cut the jewellery from her person and fled. Police apprehended Mergal and recovered the stolen jewellery following a complaint by the woman’s son.
On Saturday, his sister and his two daughters came to stay with them. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when the woman was alone at home.
Pune : A gang of four robbers barged into a house at Bori Budruk village in Junnar taluka, about 95 km from Pune, and decamped with gold and silver jewellery worth Rs9.35 lakh after thrashing the family members with sticks.
