The police chief said a report had been submitted to the crime additional DGP soon after the officer’s social media posts came to the department’s notice. A final report had subsequently been submitted to the ADGP, and strict departmental action would follow, he said. In view of her earlier posting, a report on the matter was also forwarded to the Ernakulam rural district police chief, Naseem said.
The officer, Sajitha Salim, came under scrutiny following her social media posts which were alleged to be derogatory towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union govt. She was later posted to Idukki district crime branch under departmental orders. The issue came to the department’s attention after Yuva Morcha’s Idukki north district committee filed a complaint with Thodupuzha Police alleging that Salim had repeatedly used social media to denigrate the prime minister and Union govt and circulate misinformation. Yuva Morcha district president Gokul Gopinath, who submitted the complaint, cited, among other things, the sharing of posts expressing support for protests held in Delhi. The organisation had warned that it would launch protests if an inquiry was not conducted and action taken against the officer. The police department’s decision to initiate departmental proceedings follows the complaint.
Salim had earlier served at Perumbavoor police station before being transferred to the crime branch.
