Ahmedabad: A farmer was allegedly kidnapped from the Gandhinagar sub-registrar’s office over a dispute regarding the sale of agricultural land in Khoraj village, according to a police complaint filed by his wife at Adalaj police station. She said the land was registered in the names of her father and other family members. The family had decided to sell the land to two people, Ratilal Patel and Harishsinh Gohil, according to the complaint. She said her brother was later dropped off near Vaishnodevi on SG Highway, while her husband remained missing. The family searched for Popatji but could not trace him, according to the complaint. He alleged that some farmers were pressured to sign documents and said Ravi Thakor had brought the affected farmers to him for discussion. Jagdish Thakor has called his implication in the complaint a political conspiracy and said he is prepared to cooperate with the police if summoned.
She named three men — Ravi Thakor, Gabhu Rabari and Baldev Rabari — and alleged that they tried to force the deal in the favour of Congress leader Jagdish Thakor . The woman alleged that Ravi Thakor threatened the family and insisted they sell the land to Jagdish Thakor instead. She also alleged that Ravi Thakor threatened her with dire consequences if she approached police. Former Gujarat Congress president Jagdish Thakor, whose name has surfaced in the dispute, issued a video statement denying any wrongdoing. The accusations and Jagdish Thakor’s rebuttals have not been independently verified.
