In Kanpur Dehat, a 29-year-old woman was reportedly killed by her husband during a domestic dispute on Sunday morning, two months after their inter-faith marriage. The suspect, Gajendra Sankhwar, aged 30, contacted police to confess, stating, “I have killed my wife.” The incident has raised concerns about domestic violence in the context of inter-faith relationships.
Sapna (29), a resident of Durauli village in the Derapur police station area, lived in a rented house with her husband, who works as a construction mason.
Gajendra left his first wife and entered into a court marriage with Asma, who changed her name to Sapna, according to police. Police said Sapna was speaking to someone on her mobile phone when a dispute arose between the couple. The accused also has a son from his first marriage. As the argument escalated, Gajendra allegedly hit her with an iron rod, leaving her seriously injured. Neighbours reached the house after hearing the commotion. Police also arrived after receiving Gajendra’s call and took Sapna in their vehicle to Akbarpur Medical College, where doctors declared her dead. Police took Gajendra into custody and began questioning him.
