Agartala: Two young men from Bihar were apprehended during a targeted operation on Monday at Shalbagan, located near the BSF Tripura Frontier headquarters along the Agartala-Khowai road. The arrests occurred during a vehicle-checking initiative by police, which is part of heightened security measures leading up to the ADC Village Council elections scheduled for September 28 and the Durga Puja festivities. Authorities have ramped up security in the region in anticipation of these significant events.
The accused were identified as Suraj Kumar (29) of Lakhisarai and Srikanth Kumar (36) of Vaishali. SDPO Subrata Barman said police are probing the source of the arms, intended recipients, possible interstate trafficking links, earlier visits and local contacts. Police seized two foreign-made pistols, three magazines, eight live rounds, two mobile phones and three SIM cards. They allegedly arrived in Agartala by Deoghar Express on Saturday and stayed in north Agartala. After a tip-off, security teams tracked them travelling from Damdamia towards Agartala on Sunday night.
