Sadhugram
Nashik : The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated the process to permanently acquire 191 acres of land at Tapovan for Sadhugram ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027. The state govt has already sanctioned Rs2,200 crore for acquisition of the 191-acre land parcel. The NMC currently has around 91 acres in its possession at Tapovan, and the additional land is being acquired to expand Sadhugram. At Tapovan, a total of 377 acres has been earmarked as a no-development zone for Sadhugram. Authorities are planning a major expansion of Sadhugram for the 2027 Kumbh in view of the expected rise in the number of participating sadhus. Around 10 lakh sadhus are expected to attend the event, compared to around 2.5 lakh during the 2015 Kumbh Mela. The overall Sadhugram area is proposed to be expanded to around 1,400 acres. Besides the permanently acquired land, nearly 1,050 acres is expected to be taken on lease to accommodate the large influx of sadhus and pilgrims.

“Once the valuation is finalised, negotiations with the affected landowners will begin to determine compensation,” a civic official said. NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri said the survey and valuation process is being expedited to ensure timely completion of land acquisition which is a key component of Kumbh preparations. “The NMC does not intend to acquire trust-owned land,” the official said. “The expanded Sadhugram will include temporary sanitation and bathing facilities, internal roads, electrification, sector offices, police posts, shelter areas for devotees and designated commercial zones,” the official said.
Sadhugram is a place where sadhus and seers are accommodated during the Kumbh Mela. The civic body has decided to undertake a joint measurement of the land and has requested the district administration’s land acquisition department to complete the valuation exercise within the next few weeks.
