Police on Saturday questioned the juvenile accused in the murder of an elderly man in Alappuzha

Nashik: A 70-year-old woman was found dead in a farm pond in Dindori taluka’s Lakhmapur village on Friday.

On Sunday, her nephew, who works in an industrial unit in Nashik city, registered a complaint with the Wani police station stating that his aunt was killed by an unidentified person sometime before 7.30pm on Friday by throwing her into the farm pond.

Mandakini, a widow, used to live alone in her house, according to the police. The police said that her hands and legs were tied with a rope while her mouth was wrapped with the saree. A senior police officer of the Wani police station said they were questioning people in and around the village to find out who all were in contact with her and whether she had any issue with anyone.

The deceased has been identified as Mandakini Sonawane. She used to make traditional articles from clay to earn a living. Thus, it was not known to anyone when she had left the house or since when she was missing.

The deceased woman’s nephew filed a murder complaint against an unidentified person at the Wani police station on Saturday. Late on Friday, Mandakini’s body was found in the farm pond near her house.
