Nashik: Ward 7 in Nashik city has emerged among the country’s best-performing urban neighbourhoods, securing third rank nationally in the Swachh Vayu Survekshan 2026 and winning a Rs 30 lakh cash award for improving air quality and curbing pollution. Ward 7 secured the third position in the country among wards with a population exceeding 30,000. Officials said the Rs 30 lakh award would be used to further strengthen air pollution control initiatives and improve air quality in the city.
Officials said the award recognises sustained efforts to reduce pollution and is expected to encourage civic bodies to push ahead with cleaner and healthier urban development initiatives. Nashik mayor Himgauri Aher, deputy mayor Vilas Shinde, additional commissioner Amit Ranjan and deputy commissioner Sangita Nandurkar received the award on behalf of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC). The survey assessed performance on air-quality improvement, implementation of clean-air action plans, dust-control measures, waste management, public awareness campaigns and efforts to reduce pollution sources. The event was attended by National Green Tribunal chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Commission for Air Quality Management chairperson Rajesh Verma, environment secretary Tanmay Kumar, Central Pollution Control Board chairperson Dr Amandeep Garg, and other senior govt officials.
The achievement was announced at the National Clean Air Awards ceremony organised by the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change in New Delhi on Monday. The awards were presented at the National Clean Air Awards ceremony at Indira Paryavaran Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday.
