Madurai Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, inaugurated a tree plantation drive on Monday by planting saplings along Alagarkovil Road where 300 saplings were planted as part of an initiative to improve the environment.
A total of 300 saplings were planted along the stretch on the opening day. The civic body currently has a stock of 2,800 saplings standing eight feet tall, along with 11,000 palmyra seeds. The initiative aims to enhance green cover, combat rising urban temperatures, improve air quality, and foster a cleaner ecosystem across the city.
