KTCL officials obtained training at NWKRTC Driving and Mechanic Training center in Shiggaon.
The Karnataka govt later set up the training centre in Shiggaon, which was inaugurated by the then transport minister Ramalinga Reddy on Dec 12, 2015. Ashok Patil , divisional traffic officer, NWKRTC, Haveri, said the corporation trained 12 newly recruited officials comprising 10 TCs and two ATIs. Vivekananda Vishwadnya, chief traffic manager, NWKRTC, Hubballi, said, “KTCL had been requesting us to train its staff, but it was not possible earlier due to the absence of a training centre.
NWKRTC operates a driving and mechanic training centre in Shiggaon and says it is equipped to share its knowledge and experience with public transport corporations across the country. When KTCL approached us seeking training for its newly recruited officials, we extended our support,” he said. Patil said the trainees were well educated and keen to learn. “Since KTCL is a relatively small corporation with three to four depots and 15 bus stands, we shared our expertise on vehicle allocation, duty confirmation, scientific scheduling, and maintaining service regularity,” he added. Siddeshwar H, principal of the training centre, said the programme was conducted for a week, from Monday to Saturday. “The trainees were curious and eager to learn about various aspects of public transport operations,” he said. However, there is also a need to provide further training to NWKRTC staff,” he said.
The initiative is aimed at improving operational efficiency and passenger services through better schedule management and training. Recently, KTCL’s managing director approached us for training, and we agreed, as sharing knowledge will help improve services, which is in the best interest of passengers in both states. “This was the first training programme conducted after the inauguration of the training centre. Mallikarjun Savkar, former chairman of NWKRTC, Hubballi, welcomed the initiative. “NWKRTC has been among the better transport corporations in the country in adopting technology and modern operational practices. Sharing this expertise with other corporations will help improve public transport services and benefit commuters.
