Banned plastic products seized from a private establishment in Kumily
The owner of the establishment was fined Rs 50,000. Idukki : A special squad seized 597kg of banned plastic products during an inspection at a private establishment in Kumily town.
The use of banned plastic products for packing and serving food at hotels and restaurants in Kumily and surrounding areas, including for tourists, has been resulting in significant expenditure for the panchayat on waste management, officials said. The panchayat would not permit the use or sale of banned plastic products and strict action would be taken against violators, the panchayat secretary said. The squad constituted by Idukki district collector seized the banned plastic products from the establishment’s warehouse during an inspection. Block panchayat secretary Vellaiyan and panchayat secretary R Ashok Kumar were also part of the team. The inspection was carried out following a report received by the district collector.
