Huda Zariwala
Meerut : Social activist and influencer Huda Zariwala, 40, was arrested by Saharanpur police for allegedly criticising Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and the district administration after a two-storey mosque located in the collectorate complex was demolished on Sept 5. “Based on the complaint, an FIR under BNSS sections 170 (arrest without warrant),126 (show cause) and 135 (inquiry into truth for keeping peace) has been registered.
Further investigation is underway,” said Saharanpur SP (City) Vyom Bindal. Singh alleged Zariwala’s remarks against the CM and the district administration caused resentment among people and urged police to take strict action against her. The arrest came after a local advocate, Dushyant Singh, filed a complaint at Sadar Bazaar police station on Monday. The woman, a resident of Greater Noida, was arrested and sent to jail on Tuesday.
In an interview, she had said she was born in Riyadh, where her father lived, and completed her early schooling there before her family returned to India. Currently, she describes herself as a social activist and YouTuber. She also claimed to have worked with the research team of Saudi Arabia’s ministry of culture and information.
Zariwala was earlier associated with AAP as a spokesperson and worked with BBC London.
