Dhananjay Munde, an NCP MLA and former minister, has called on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to hold a special cabinet meeting in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He is urging the government to announce an immediate relief package for the Marathwada region, which is currently experiencing a drought-like situation affecting large areas. Munde’s request highlights the urgent need for government intervention to support the affected communities.
He urged govt to hold a special cabinet meeting around Marathwada Mukti Sangram Din on Sept 17, or at the earliest, to take decisions on relief measures. Munde said farmers were in deep distress as standing crops had dried up due to poor rainfall. “Whenever Marathwada has faced a crisis, govt has convened special cabinet meetings and announced relief packages.
The situation this year warrants a similar intervention,” Munde said. He said the proposed meeting should approve immediate financial assistance for farmers and address pressing concerns such as drinking water availability, fodder for livestock and planning for the upcoming rabi season. A cabinet meeting in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar would help govt take coordinated decisions on both immediate relief and longer-term measures to reduce the impact of poor rainfall on agriculture and livestock across the region, according to Munde.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Munde said kharif crops across Marathwada, including Beed district, have suffered extensive damage and sought a formal drought declaration along with all concessions available under drought-relief norms.
