Fake call centre
Kanpur: Police busted a fake call centre targeting foreigners in Jajmau and arrested 11 persons during separate raids conducted on Monday and Tuesday.
Police said the operation was allegedly run by a BBA student, the son of a teacher and a resident of Jajmau. The call centre’s head office is said to be located at Cyber Heights in Vibhutikhand, Lucknow. Through the fake call centre, the fraudsters were allegedly targeting people in the US, London and Europe with fraudulent offers to settle loans, credit card dues and lapsed insurance policies. Acting on the directions of Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal, a joint team of the Crime Branch, Surveillance Cell and Cyber Cell raided the call centre operating near KDA Colony at Jamjam Tower. He had reportedly received training from a company in Lucknow. Police seized several laptops, mobile phones, hard disks, other electronic equipment and suspicious documents during the raids.
