Madurai: The district-level sports competitions for the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Trophy 2026 got underway in Madurai on Wednesday. The tournament will continue till Sept 26. Winners in individual and team events will receive cash prizes of Rs 3,000 for first place, Rs 2,000 for second place, and Rs 1,000 for third place, which will be directly credited to their bank accounts.

Organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, the opening ceremony took place at Dr MGR Stadium in the presence of collector Nishant Krishna. Multiple venues in the city, including Dr MGR Stadium, American College, Lady Doak College, Sriram Nallamani Higher Secondary School, OCPM Higher Secondary School and Solamalai College of Engineering, will host the competitions under five categories for school, college students, the public, govt employees, and people with disabilities. Participation has been restricted to athletes who have pre-registered online. District sports and youth welfare officer A Murugan and other officials attended the inaugural function.
