Idukki : Police arrested four persons for allegedly stealing an excavator worth Rs 20 lakh that had been kept in the custody of the forest department at Kallippara under Devikulam forest range on Wednesday. The arrested persons are Basil, 35, of Manjakkuzhi, Shalbin, 33, Ajil, 24, of Kuruvilacity and Bibin Sibi, 28, of Bisonvalley village. Forest officials led by the Devikulam range forest officer intercepted and detained the suspects. They were subsequently arrested by a police team led by Nedumkandam circle inspector Shine Kumar and sub-inspector Shibu Mohan V S. Download the TOI App.
The accused were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody. The accused allegedly broke the chain and seal that were there to secure the excavator and drove it away on a tipper truck between 1am and 3am on Tuesday, according to the forest department.
