Two more people have been arrested by the government railway police (GRP) in connection with the case where a gold store employee lost a consignment containing nearly 3kg of gold while travelling from Madurai on July 23 on the Ananthapuri express.
Madurai : Two more people have been arrested by the government railway police (GRP) in connection with the case where a gold store employee lost a consignment containing nearly 3kg of gold while travelling from Madurai on July 23 on the Ananthapuri express. The arrested, identified as Ashok Kumar , 67, and Sunil Kumar, alias Ranjan Kumar, 42, both residents of Bihar, were nabbed from Jodhpur in Rajasthan on September 3. They were brought back to Tamil Nadu on September 7 and lodged in judicial custody on Tuesday. One of the accused, Ashok Kumar, had travelled to Jodhpur to appear for a hearing related to a 2011 theft case. Subsequently, with the help of Rajasthan police, the team from Tamil Nadu secured the duo on September 3. Police earlier arrested Amarnath Jaiswal, who already had 36 previous theft cases in West Bengal.
Police sources said that investigation was carried out under the supervision of government railway police superintendent of police Adarsh Pachera. A special team, led by Inspector Suresh, travelled to Bihar to nab the accused. During the investigation, police tracked the mobile signal of the duo and later found that it led to Jodhpur. A smartwatch hidden inside a discarded bag helped Tamil Nadu railway police crack the theft of the gold.
