Kochi: Enforcement directorate (ED) has initiated a separate Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case against 28 persons accused of attacking its officials during a search at the residence of former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram in May. The search was linked to the Exalogic–CMRL pay-off case.
The search was conducted on May 27 at Vijayan’s rented residence, where his daughter T Veena, an accused in the CMRL case, was staying. The central agency is probing whether the attack against ED was part of a wider conspiracy to hinder the probe into the monthly-payoff case. ED officials were allegedly attacked by the group while leaving the premises in a private vehicle hired by the agency. Following the alleged attack, Kerala Police had registered a case invoking charges including attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of public property, among other sections.
