Following the commotion, other hospital staff and relatives intervened to rescue

Vinit Deshmukh was apprehended in Ulhasnagar and subsequently presented before the Kalyan court. The court has ordered that he remain in police custody until Thursday for further investigation.

Kalyan: Seventeen days after an orthopaedic doctor was assaulted inside his consultation cabin at a private hospital in Kalyan East, Kolsewadi police arrested the 30-year-old accused, Vinit Jaywant Deshmukh, on Wednesday. The incident occurred on the night of August 23 at Bhanujyot Hospital. Dr Yogendra Jaiswal (41) was attending to the accused’s father, Jaywant Deshmukh, who was undergoing treatment for a rib fracture, according to the police.

“Based on technical surveillance and tipoffs, our team tracked down Vinit from Vithalwadi police station’s jurisdiction in Ulhasnagar and placed him under arrest on Wednesday,” said Nitin Pagar, senior police inspector from Kolsewadi police station. Deshmukh was caught from Ulhasnagar and was produced before Kalyan court, which remanded him police custody till Thursday. Vinit allegedly became aggressive and punched Dr Jaiswal when the latter asked him to speak politely while discussing his father’s treatment While Kolsewadi police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including voluntarily causing hurt, following protests by local medical associations, the accused had remained at large.

Following the commotion, other hospital staff and relatives intervened to rescue the orthopaedic doctor.
