Pune: MPSC job aspirant Prathamesh Deshmukh’s death by suicide has prompted renewed scrutiny of an examination system shaken by a paper leak, allegations of malpractice and repeated changes in rules.
When they are unable to repay these loans due to prolonged uncertainty in exams, the resultant financial stress and blow to their self-respect can become overwhelming, with some eventually resorting to suicide. Because every delay in exams or results means more rent, more expenses, more dependence on families and another year of students’ lives mired in uncertainty, cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke also demanded a systemic change.
The NCP MLA’s post on X said, “Thousands of students from wet and dry drought-prone areas are forced to borrow money and come to cities. Akshay Jain, president of Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress (media department), said Prathamesh’s death exposed the serious failures of the examination system. “Govt must ensure accountability, transparency and swift action against those responsible, while providing justice and substantial financial assistance to Prathamesh’s family,” he said.
Stating that MPSC aspirants were feeling unfairly denied opportunities, Karjat Jamkhed MLA Rohit Pawar sought financial assistance to the family of the deceased. Govt must take serious note of this situation, immediately remove corrupt officials from MPSC and appoint officers with clean records. Political functionaries and activists on Wednesday called for greater accountability and transparency, saying the system’s failures were increasingly being borne by job aspirants. Dipke is set to visit Prathamesh’s family in Khasapuri village of Paranda tehsil, Dharashiv district, on Thursday morning.
