The All India JP Atray Cricket Tournament, a prominent pre-season fixture that has been part of the Indian cricket landscape since 1992, has brought the curtain down on its 34-year innings. The tournament, which was held 30 times over the past 34 years as a tribute to former Haryana ADGP Jai Prakash Atray, will no longer be staged from this year. The JP Atray Tournament was played in the 50-over format and traditionally served as a pre-season curtain-raiser for Indian cricket. As many as 140 cricketers who participated in the tournament subsequently went on to represent India, according to the release.
The tournament committee and the Atray family have decided to close the chapter, bringing an end to one of India’s long-running domestic one-day tournaments. It was affiliated with the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) and received annual approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Over the decades, the tournament featured a long list of Indian stars, including Kapil Dev, Yashpal Sharma, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Irfan Pathan, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Chetan Sharma. the Rama Atray Tournament for women cricketers will continue While the men’s tournament has ended. Its seventh edition is scheduled to commence later this month in Chandigarh.
